  • In this activity students will discuss the importance of plants in our world, and the impact pests can have on plant production and forests.  Wrap up: have groups present their findings and brainstorm methods to combat pests.

  • This activity will compare two types of plants in the garden: woody and herbaceous. Students will have to find an example of each, compare, and answer questions on the activity sheet provided. Wrap up: Discuss students’ answers and similarities/differences between two types of plants.

  • Discuss deciduous plants and plant structure: twig, bud, bud scale scar, bark and lenticels. Students choose a deciduous plant and complete the drawings and measurements on the worksheet. Wrap-up: share last year’s plant growth and discuss factors that affected the plants’ growth over the last year.
