					Discuss plants, observations and measurement. Students choose four plants to draw and measure. Wrap-up: how will your plants change through the year?

					In this activity students will discuss the importance of plants in our world, and the impact pests can have on plant production and forests. Wrap up: have groups present their findings and brainstorm methods to combat pests. *Suggested plant list is included for teachers.

					This activity will compare two types of plants in the garden: woody and herbaceous. Students will have to find an example of each, compare, and answer questions on the activity sheet provided. Wrap up: Discuss students’ answers and similarities/differences between two types of plants.

					Discuss deciduous plants and plant structure: twig, bud, bud scale scar, bark and lenticels. Students choose a deciduous plant and complete the drawings and measurements on the worksheet. Wrap-up: share last year’s plant growth and discuss factors that affected the plants’ growth over the last year.
