  • Students will be asked about the 4 seasons. Can they name them all? Does our environment look the same during all these seasons? What are some of the things we would see or do in the summer? What about the winter? What season is it right now? How do they know this – what signs have they seen that tell us it is fall? (students will likely discuss the changing colors, falling leaves, colder weather)

  • An experiment that has students stretch hosiery over the rim of a baby food jar and after adding soil and grass seeds. Students create Soil Sammy – the grass becomes hair. Older students can experiment with fertilizer, soil types and water balance.

  • Have students choose a tree or shrub and draw it including specifics like leaves, bark, flower, seeds, and fruit or cones. Have students switch their sheet with a partner, and have their partner try to guess the tree/shrub based on the pictures drawn. Wrap up: Discuss student answers. Correct/incorrect answers and what led them to their guess.
