The Dirt on Soil Videos

The Dirt on Soil Videos

These videos were created to teach students about soil basics in a fun and interactive manner. They are focused on Grade 7 curriculum. In our research, we found that many videos available on soil science had adult presenters and didn’t speak to youth in their own language. The Dirt on Soil videos use youth hosts - all pursuing related to the soil including agriculture, ranching and land development. more

This series was developed in partnership with Alberta Agriculture & Rural Development.

The videos should be seen in order. There will be 4 in the series this year and hopefully more in the near future.

Worksheets with take home or in-class exercises and activities are provided. You are free to make copies of these sheets.

Soilquest - An in class land debate

When your class is well versed in topics like land development you could lead them in a class debate on the subject using the roles and land set out at www.soilquest.ca.

For more information on the Dirt on Soil Series, please review the Teachers’ Guide for this program in the Document Library.

If you are interested in learning more about nutrients and our industry in general, take a look at the videos posted in the ‘advanced learning’ section.
